There is so much money to be made as an insurance agent, and perhaps, this is the very reason why you’re here. You want to know everything about this hustle and are looking for companies to sign up with.
Suppose that is the case, hang on tight as I review one of the most talked-about companies and answer the question of whether the American Income Life Insurance company is a scam or not.
A career in selling life insurance sounds a bit challenging at first. However, it remains one of the biggest industries in the financial services sector.
You see, unlike other positions in the industry, you do not have to be a complete finance genius, nor do you need a stellar degree in sales and marketing or even in accounting.
People from all walks of life can be life insurance agents. 😊
For instance, my life insurance agent was a registered 29-year old commercial pilot in Asia.
He has been flying for almost ten years when he finally discovered that becoming an agent is much more rewarding, even to the point that it allowed him to become financially free at such a young age.
At the moment, he’s already the unit manager, and I can only guess how much money he’s earning today.
According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage is around $50,940, which is not bad if you are only considering doing this as a side hustle. 📈
And to top it all off, some companies even hire agents so long as they have a high school diploma, the grit to succeed in this work, and become licensed in their localities.
Having said that, please know that there are some drawbacks too. 😐
For instance, if you have had no selling experiences, you might find it comfortable to face disapproval from your projected clients or even a few door-in-the-face moments.
Additionally, you might feel pressured because of the quota that you need to hit and look for some innovative ways and strategies to reach out to new customers.
Due to these drawbacks, we see glaring turnover rates here since many neophyte agents struggle to earn enough commissions.
You see, instead of doing it as a side hustle, people are actually chasing this opportunity as a full-time job, and they rely on their commissions alone!
If you ask me, though, I still suggests that it’s better if you try this out as a side-gig first before going all in.
Suppose you are genuinely interested in becoming an agent. 👨💼⭐
In that case, hang on tight as I present to you my honest review of the American Life Insurance company and tell you whether it’s a firm worthy of signing up with or not.
Before I start, let me just clarify that I am not in any way associated with this company, nor am I being paid to write this post. What you’ll see here are my sincere thoughts about this alone and nothing more.
If you are up for that, then let’s draw the curtains! 🎦
American Income Life Insurance Company Review
Suppose you have been a follower of this site.
In that case, you probably have an idea of how passionate I am about disclosing the truth about various moneymaking opportunities.
I’ve seen it all by reviewing big brands like the Lending Club, Financial Educational Services, Bank Roll Bucks, and even Cafepress.
In today’s post, we will be discussing the highly-talked-about insurance company and the reasons behind the sudden buzz.
Even though it has been in the business for more than 70 years (thanks to Bernard Rapoport), American Income Life Insurance (AILI) is not even part of the top insurance companies in the United States.
If you visit its social media page, you might be surprised to find out that it only has around 17k followers on Facebook, 3.9k on Instagram, and about 2.8k on Twitter.
Those metrics alone are certainly not on par with its major competitors like Prudential (566k on Facebook), Transamerica (538k on Facebook), or even Statefarm (2M on Facebook)!
It is a no-brainer when we say that it is easier to sell products if the brand is already well known and highly respected, right? In this sense, I do not think that signing up and selling their products will be easy. ❌🙁
The company is licensed to operate under 49 states and in Columbia, Canada, and New Zealand.
According to their site, they are owned by Globe Life, and they are also the minds behind the Union Heritage Life Assurance and the National Income Life Insurance.
The American Income Life Insurance company basically deals with insurance products and health policies with various riders such as:
• Accidental plan (where the policyholder will be guaranteed a cash benefit for unintentional injuries)
• Cancer protection (where there is a certain percentage that can be used for paying cancer treatments)
• Death benefits
• Critical illness (where the company will pay a lump sum)
• Hospitalization (where there is a certain percentage given as a “benefit” to spend on short and long term hospitalization)
Of course, I cannot really give you a gauge on how much the premiums are because it depends on certain factors like your age, job, medical experiences, and lifestyle.
But as a rule of thumb, the younger you are in availing these, you can expect pocket-friendly monthly premiums where some can even go as low as $40 per month.
As for aspiring agents, AILI works just like any other organization, where they will offer to help you pass the licensure exam and consistently train you on how to close sales.
But here is the best part! 😃
Unlike other companies where agents just focus on selling policies, American Income Life Insurance also encourages their people to recruit, train, and even manage other people!
In this sense, top-performing agents will be given a chance to have their own unit and become unit managers.
By becoming one, you will be on top of the MLM-like hierarchy where all the people below you are your downline distributors. Please note that I used the lawful “MLM” as a term and not a pyramid scheme, okay?
In a pyramid scheme, you don’t deal with any product, and your focus is on recruiting other people so that you will have your own downline.
At the same time, with MLMs, there is a legitimate thing that you are selling, and your focus is on creating opportunities for yourself as a distributor through selling.
In addition to that, you can also help in recruiting new agents since you can earn a percentage of their sales too!
How Does American Income Life Insurance Work?
Joining the American Income Life Insurance is easy. ✅
You just have to go on their site and fill in the information for the application. Once you send it, you can expect a call from them on where and when your interview will be.
The interviewer will gauge your capability to succeed in this field by analyzing your answers and checking your communication skills.
After that, you will be prompted to wait for 3-5 business days to receive a call from them to know whether you passed or not.
Once you pass, you will receive another call from the unit manager and an e-mail on the date to give you an orientation and discuss the certification process.
As you may know, selling insurance is not as easy as buying and selling business on Amazon or eBay. It would be best if you actually were a registered financial practitioner.
To become one, you have to prepare and pass the exam. 📘📝
During the orientation, they will ask you to shell out about 100 dollars (which is pretty reasonable) so that they can provide you with materials and the practical training modules that you can use for the exam.
Please note that you cannot proceed with the process until you have proof that you passed. Once you’re done with all of that, you can e-mail your unit manager to inform them of your success and how ready you are to dive into their industry.
They will then e-mail you the complete details on where the training will be held and the schedule (which usually lasts for a full week and will not be paid by the company).
After the training, you will be granted access to an agent-only site and the software packages to help you calculate and automate your insurance presentations to prospective clients.
Do not worry because all of these will be discussed with you during the weeklong training.
In terms of commission – new agents start at around 50% commission for every contract sold. The commissions get higher and higher as long as you recruit other people since you can earn a portion from their sales too.
If this is your first time in the industry, please note that there are times that you only receive half of your commissions. Don’t worry about this since you will still get the other half after some time.
Companies do this in case your client will suddenly cancel.
As promised, here are my sincere thoughts on this. 🙂
It may sound like there is too much process to deal with but trust me when I say it is the standard for all companies.
If you are already a registered financial planner, I bet you can skip the processes and proceed to the training straight away.
The training is a bit short, but it will equip you with the sales tactics and the trends in sales and marketing.
As you can see from the process, joining the American Income Life Insurance company is free, but you must invest in yourself first to become a part of their team.
While it is entirely in your discretion if you want to pay the $100, I highly suggest that you pay it with whatever company you are signing up with.
Unlike studying alone, these companies already have practical experiences and know the content’s ins-and-outs and what to expect out of the exam.
I also found a few fishy things about their process. 🛑
The American Income Life Insurance company has a resounding A+ rating on BBB with around 2.06 ratings out of the 336 customer reviews.
Upon reading the complaints on the site, I realized that the reason behind the low ratings is that there seems to be some indistinguishable line between selling and luring.
Many people complain that the company is employing some severe types of bait and switch techniques that can be off-putting.
You see, the company will give you a script where you will have to learn how to do some of these tactics to ensure sales as well as recruit people.
Basically, some units create fraudulent advertisements like giving off free tickets to various destinations so long as you come to their event.
Once you’re there, you will not be given any ticket at all but, at the same time, will be forced to listen to the presentation.
But, again – this depends on the unit you are being assigned to.
Some units work positively and lawfully where they simply post on social media and sometimes call to reach out to potential clients.
I guess the deal here is that before you sign up with them, make sure that you know who the unit manager is and the selling tactics they are employing in their team.
Is American Income Life Insurance Company a Scam?
American Income Life Insurance is not a scam, and they are selling legitimate policies the same with their competitors.
In terms of being an agent, I find their process a bit suspicious since numerous reports say that unit managers are asking their people to stick to the bait and switch strategies that are very unprofessional.
The fact that the company does not recognize this nor disapproves of such tactics is a major red flag. So, if I were in your shoes, I would stay away from the American Income Life Insurance company.
Additionally, I found a very recent lawsuit against them. 👨⚖️
This January 2021, the California federal district approved the $5 million settlement on behalf of the agents who were not compensated justly.
And do you know what is more interesting about this? Well, this settlement actually goes for all the sales agents from September 2014 to August 2019!
Apparently, it was found out that this company has been violating a few things about the California Labor Code. These violations are:
- The company illegally collects back all the commissions and wages that the agent has already earned! This happens when the customer of an agent suddenly terminates their policies.
- They have been found to use bait and switch tactics most of the time consistently.
- Some of the agents were able to pass the certification but did not hear anything from the company afterward.
- The company did not give actual training sessions but just provided the agents with scripts
Despite the good ratings and *paid* reviews out there, I have to say that I’m not sure whether signing up with them as an agent is worth it at all.
Whether you are looking for a side hustle or a full-blown career, the internet still has better opportunities out there that are more profitable, consistent, and easier to manage.
One example of such is my most recommended online opportunity. 👇
How I Made $4.376 Last Month! 💸
By this time, I think you wonder if there really is an opportunity out there that can help fill up those deep pockets of yours.
Allow me to introduce the business model that has changed my life in more ways than one – affiliate marketing.
I’m not quite sure if you’ve heard of it before, but AM, in my mind, is the king of online careers since it allows you to become the boss of your own time and gives you the chance to build your very own digital marketing business.
The concept behind it is quite simple. You promote other peoples products or services (or both) in exchange for a commission.
What makes it so alluring is that you don’t own any of the products, meaning that you can bring home nearly half of the profits without worrying about dealing with customer complaints and all of that fun stuff.
All you have to do is grab a link that’s unique to you (also known as an affiliate link), promote it around the web, and get paid each time someone clicks on it and buys the product or service that you’re recommending.
The blog you’re on now is my brainchild, and at the same time, it’s a perfect example of how an affiliate marketing website should look like.
I know it may look quite basic at first, but I assure you that it gets the job done, and by that, I mean that it is earning me a steady four figures each month. ($4.376 to be exact – last month earnings)
As stated, I’m an affiliate marketer myself, and here are some excellent reasons as to why I think you should consider becoming one yourself:
- If you’re someone who hates the office, AM is the perfect solution.
- Compared to other business models, AM is very cost-effective.
- It’s performance-based. What you do is what you get.
- It’s quite convenient and flexible.
- Over %56 of online earners are affiliates.
- It becomes passive with time. You earn more with less work.
- The risk of failure is significantly lower than other business models.
- You don’t have to be an expert at anything.
- It’s reliable, steady, and infinitely scalable.
- Anyone can do it, including yourself. (see a list of success stories!) 🏆
I don’t want to make it seem like it’s this magical business model where you’ll get paid thousands of dollars just by working two or three hours per day, okay?
Contrary to that, AM requires a lot of perseverance and input from your side, and only then can you reap the benefits it has to offer.
You’ll be required to work at least 4-5 hours initially until you set everything up, and after that, once you start earning money, you can take it down a notch because, as I said, the passiveness behind it is unlike anything else you’ve seen before.
I can go on and on for days to try and explain how outstanding AM is. 👍
Still, it might be better to save us both some time and have you read my ultimate affiliate marketing guide instead.
It will teach you everything there is about this business model, including what it is, how it works, and how you too can follow in my footsteps and create your very own successful affiliate marketing website.
Like any other business, this one will also require you to learn a thing or two about the process, and I think this a great time to introduce you to the platform that helped me get to where I am today.
Without it, I wouldn’t have known one-tenth of the things I know now, nor would I sit here and write this American Income Life Insurance review.
I probably would have been just another internet dweller spending hundreds of dollars on overpromising courses and trying to figure out how this making money online thing works. 😠😥
In the past ten years or so, Wealthy Affiliate has been the leading educational platform for affiliate marketers of all levels.
It doesn’t matter if you’re just getting started, have some experience, or you have been rocking four figures like myself – WA is the place where you can transform your ideas into profits, and I can personally vouch for them.
As they did for me, they can also give you the much-needed pieces of training, tools, and support to build your very own website and share with you all the proven strategies to attract visitors to it.
Trust me when I say that they don’t just lead the industry.
The innovate, propel it, and go way beyond that. 🚀
At the moment, WA deals with a unique freemium membership model that enables you to test out the platform without actually paying a dime.
With it, you get the chance to take part in the first few lessons of the course, giving you more than enough time to decide whether this platform is suitable for you or if you should look for something else instead.
It would be my pleasure to personally greet and mentor you inside and unselfishly share some of the traffic generating techniques that I’ve been using to attract thousands of visitors to my blog.
On top of that, you’ll get to communicate with some of the world’s top affiliates, and I promise that you won’t get bothered with any additional upsells or things of that nature.
As I end this review, I hope I could give justice in explaining the very nature of American Income Life Insurance and shed light on whether it is a total scam or not.
What are your thoughts about it? 💭
Are you a policyholder under them or planning to sign up as an agent? I encourage you to slide a few comments in the comment section underneath, and I vow to give my best to reply to them promptly. 👋
This is a pretty comprehensive and educative review of American Income Life insurance.
I really appreciate your article, apart from your inspiring story of how you have done well with affiliate marketing. It is a clear explanation of what a sound/legit MLM opportunity is and vice versa.
Armed with this knowledge, one can quickly tell whether an opportunity is good or a pyramid scheme dressed up as the real thing.
Most importantly, you have raised some good questions for anyone interested in joining AILI to consider before biting the bullet, so to speak.
Great work, and thank you!
I always try my best, and by the looks of it, I’m doing a great job. Thanks for the kind words Femi and for taking a minute of your time to share your thoughts with me.
My first job was as an insurance agent, and it was the toughest thing I did!
If you make good sales, you earn good money. I realized that you mostly had to be a smooth talker to win the game. And it’s quite hard to make the figures as there are a lot of competitions.
Nowadays, many companies like the American Income Life Insurance offer the possibility to build up your team, empowering and showing that the business model does not just focus on sales figures but also its people’s potential.
However, my personal opinion is that being an insurance agent is a tedious job and that there are more clever ways of earning online, like affiliate marketing.
It’s genuine, simple, proven, and astoundingly exciting if you choose the right niche! Continue the great work.
You said it best – a smooth talker wins the game.
Thanks for sharing your story with me, Arnaud. Are you currently involved in affiliate marketing, and if so, how are things going for you? Please feel free to contact me if you feel like there’s some way I can help.
I wish you all the best, and I appreciate your comment.
Hi, interesting article.
I have first-hand experience with this company. I was in a position where I needed a second income. I went through the hiring process, got my state license to sell insurance, and I was excited!
I was working a full-time job and was doing this every evening and weekend. I was waiting for the day it paid off.
First, they say they have leads. Their leads were several years old.
Second. Lots and lots of cold calling. Sitting in a big room, using my own cell phone, making call after call using their script to book appointments.
I used my own car and my own gas and would travel around the region I was in. Many people wouldn’t be home.
If something better came along, do you think they would go out to meet friends and family or wait around for an insurance guy to take their money?
If you got in the door, here is the other thing.
You have to be a die-hard salesman through and through. I thought this opportunity was signing up people interested in buying a policy. That was not the case.
After doing this for six months, driving countless miles, using up all of my free time, I think I made one sale.
So what was first a desperate need to make a few extra bucks ended up costing me hundreds in gasoline, wear and tear on my car, and getting licensed to sell.
The office individuals were good trainers and seemed to have a genuine interest in my success, but unless you are a die-hard salesman who won’t take no for an answer, this job isn’t for you.
Now I’ll be checking out your recommendation.
Luckily, I’m in a better place financially, but I want to be my own boss someday. It sounds like your recommendation is the most hopeful thing I’ve seen online in a long, long time.
Thanks for this article. I hope you and I both save people from wasting their time and money with this company. Again, the company is legit, but you need to be a salesman, and not everyone is.
I’ll keep you posted.
The ongoing costs are just part of the equation, and unfortunately, no one ever stops to calculate them.
And you’re absolutely right. It would be best if you were a die-hard salesman upon entering someone’s home.
At the end of the day, put yourself in someone else’s shoes and ask yourself whether it’s a good idea to buy such a policy from a person who’s not comfortable selling it to you.
Thank you very much for sharing this review. Honestly, I wasn’t aware that being an insurance agent can still be so profitable.
That said, it is still an interesting opportunity for people to start their own businesses. I love that you mention to begin as a side hustle and grow later to full time, if the result is sufficient, of course.
However, after reading your full review, I’m not too fond of the company’s tactics to gain more sales or recruit people.
It might not be a scam, but it also doesn’t seem wise to join them. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable selling their products knowing the things I know now.
On the other hand, your story looks like something inspiring, and I think you and I should talk really soon.
I’m glad you liked my review, and I’m looking forward to hearing from you. You can reach me by leaving a comment anywhere on this blog, or if you want, you can send me a message inside WA, and I’ll make sure to get back to you within a day.
